Southern Mosaic

Prisoner with guitar, at compound no. 1, Angola, Louisiana. Copyright John and Ruby Lomax, 1940.

A favorite resource/time waster of mine is the John and Ruby Lomax collection, Southern Mosaic, housed on the Library of Congress webpage. I can spend hours snooping through the archival photographs, such as the above, or perusing the field recordings, such as the below.

“Driving Levee”by Group of Convicts (4/16/1939)
