Slim Harpo, “Scratch My Back” (1965)

A perfect slice of Louisiana electric blues: laid-back yet with a driving, danceable rhythm. The laconic vocals and mellow harmonica deliver the hazy atmosphere of the bayous. Though Slim Harpo had been releasing blues tracks since the late fifties, it’s perhaps no coincidence that this track was released in 1965, just as the Rolling Stones were hitting their stride exploring a similar sonic palette. Regardless, enjoy this track; if you want more check out Harpo’s classic “I Got Love If You Want It” (1957).
