The Guess Who, “Guns, Guns, Guns”

The last song on the first side of their 1972 LP Rockin’, “Guns, Guns, Guns” features an epic instrumental intro and dark, sparse verses balanced by a melodic chorus more in line with what the the Guess Who are known for. Forget “American Woman” and “These Eyes,” this is the best song by the Guess Who. The rest of this album, the first vinyl I ever listened to, veers between excellent and passable, from the rocking (or should I say Rockin’) opening track “Heartbroken Bopper,” which showcases Burton Cummings excellent vocals, to the bluesy, lackluster “Herbert’s A Loser.” Regardless of the dull spots, Rockin’ certainly has its bright spots, brightest among them “Guns, Guns, Guns.” Enjoy.
