Canned Heat, “On The Road Again” (1968)

When I was back home, in the spring, this song was played a couple of times on the satellite radio and made perfect accompaniment to driving. I like that the song, like much of Canned Heat’s catalogue, is played pretty close to the inspiration, yet features a sitar-esque drone as a token of the song’s genesis in the late 1960s. Canned Heat feature two vocalists, one in the same growling, harmonica-playing line as Howling Wolf, Bob “The Bear” Hite, and one in falsetto style of Skip James, Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson, who is featured on this track. If you’re heading out on a road trip sometime this summer, be sure to give this song a listen somewhere down the line.
